The department orientation for the S21 batch
The department orientations for the S21 batch of the Faculty of Science, University of Peradeniya, was held on the 19th and 20th of October 2023.
The orientation of the Department of Physics included an introduction of the academic program of the department, and of the student societies in the department.
It also included lab visits with a number of exciting demonstrations such as the Rubens Tube, Hologram, Bernoulli, center of gravity setups, double cone experiment and workings of solar cell. The students were also shown the available facilities in the department including the the advanced research laboratories.

𝖨𝗆𝗉𝖺𝖼𝗍 𝗈𝖿 𝖯𝗁𝗒𝗌𝗂𝖼𝗌 𝗂𝗇 𝖧𝖾𝖺𝗅𝗍𝗁 𝖺𝗇𝖽 𝖬𝖾𝖽𝗂𝖼𝖺𝗅 𝖥𝗂𝖾𝗅𝖽𝗌
A guest talk organized by the Physical Society, University of Peradeniya, was held on the 9th of August 2023, at the P1 lecture theater.
The topic was “𝖨𝗆𝗉𝖺𝖼𝗍 𝗈𝖿 𝖯𝗁𝗒𝗌𝗂𝖼𝗌 𝗂𝗇 𝖧𝖾𝖺𝗅𝗍𝗁 𝖺𝗇𝖽 𝖬𝖾𝖽𝗂𝖼𝖺𝗅 𝖥𝗂𝖾𝗅𝖽𝗌”, focusing on understanding the tumor microenvironment and the immune system, which was conducted by Prof. Krishni Wijesooriya. This was followed by a discussion on Medical Physics related career opportunities in the USA and other countries.
Another session, and a discussion, were conducted by Prof. Nilanga Liyanage, on the USA Graduate School application for Physics students.
The session was an inspiring and engaging experience for the audience present, which included a diverse spectrum of students following various degree programs throughout the university.
OPEN DAY
The Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, University of Peradeniya, took part in the Open Day of the University of Peradeniya, held on 1st of July 2023.
On this day, the general public was able to visit the department to observe the department and its proceedings.
Those who visited the Department of Physics took part in lab visits and were able to observe several demonstrations related to physics, carried out with the aim of inspiring the next generation to embrace the beauty of physics.
Academic staff members, non academic staff members, and the undergraduates of the department were readily involved to expand the knowledge of the basics of science to the entire community.
Let us understand the wonders of nature together!

Shramadana Campaign
The Shramadana and the Department Beautification Day organized by the Physical Society of the Faculty of Science, University of Peradeniya was held on Saturday, the 10th of June 2023 at the department premises.
All the members of the department readily engaged in the activities to make the department clean!
Food Stall
The Physical Society, University of Peradeniya in collaboration with the Mathematical Society, University of Peradeniya organized a food stall on the 24th and 25th of May 2023 at the convocation premises.
The food stall was to raise funds of both the societies.
All the members of the two societies readily involved in the activities and had a great time throughout the days!
විදැස 2023 - G.C.E. (O/L) Seminar
As an initiative to aid the students facing their upcoming O/L examinations, yet another phase of the "Vidasa" seminar series was organised by the Physical Society of University of Peradeniya at Ambagaswewa Maha Vidyalaya, Hiripitiya, Kurunegala.
The seminar was held on the 29th and 30th of April 2023 with the participation of the members of the society.
The Fundraiser Car Wash organized by the Physical Society, Faculty of Science, University of Peradeniya was successfully held on the 31st of January 2023 at the Faculty of Science premises.
A big thanks to all of those who helped the cause in numerous ways.
A Search for the electric dipole moment of the neutron- Guest lecture
A guest lecture on "A search for the electric dipole moment of the neutron", conducted by Prof. Shirvel Stanislaus, was held on the 24th of November 2022 at P1 lecture theater.
It was organized by Physical Society of University of Peradeniya in colloboration with Physics Alumni Association (PAA.UP)
The Physics Padura 2022
The Physics Padura'22 was organized by the Physical Society, Faculty of Science, University of Peradeniya. It was held on the 8th of September 2022 at the Physics Lobby. Academic staff, non academic staff of the Physics department and students participated at this event.
